I recently had the opportunity to practice @ John Sahakian's Level 2 Sat. PM class in Exhale Venice .
John believes that how we breathe reveals how we live. By linking breath with movement & asana , a great personal transformation can be experienced. " As our breath begins to flow, our lives begin to flow. The more we value our breath, the more we value life. "
His class was marked by very audible pranayama ( ujayii , lion's breath ) , ashtanga influenced vinyasas ( extremely fluid ) and spiritual / traditional references. I was able to hear my breath and connect it slowly to the various asanas and transitions.
My favorite gurujis make the practice challenging but seemingly effortless. The best analogies that come to my mind are being enveloped within the tube of a barrel wave or seeing the world revolve to the hum of " AUM ". And it is the combo of breath & flow that takes us there.
John has also been featured on CNN talking about his background and experience in Thai Massage / Yoga. You can check out his website www.wholebreath.com for more info -
