The subject of SATYA has come up as my teacher had asked me yesterday if I am still practicing HANUMANASANA on a daily basis . This week has been tight as there have been some major changes in my schedule , so I did say NO.
Teacher & author Witold Fitz-Simon , in his blog Yoga, Art & Science has this to say on the subject:
"Truth-telling is all very well, but it is important to remember that Patanjali’s idea of truthfulness is the second of the observances, the first and foremost being non-harming. Speaking the truth might be liberating for you, but ultimately we must be aware of those around us. Consider the impact of your words and the manner in which you deliver them. Do you absolutely have to give voice to your truthful thought, even if it will cause pain to another? If the pain would be temporary, but the ultimate goal would be to prevent the person harm, can you modify the expression of the truth to minimize the immediate anguish?
The things we say to others, especially when they are looking to us for advice, can have tremendous weight, sometimes more than we think. A casual, off-hand remark that has not been thought through can have unintended effects. It is not enough to put the burden of comprehension on the recipient of the remark. I have often heard the hurtful effect of an offhand remark be callously denied by the speaker saying that the recipient needs to lighten up and have a sense of humor. This is nothing more than a distancing tactic, an attempt at absolving the speaker from any consequence. As practitioners of yoga, we quickly discover that no act exists without consequence, and should behave accordingly. "

Forget fear and have fun as you deepen your arm balances.
Join Kathryn Budig for a lighthearted evening of exploration on our hands!
This workshop is geared towards both fledglings of arm balances and full grow flyers. We will explore the foundation of arm balancing, the technicalities of leaving the ground on our hands and the playful mindset needed to maintain the balance. We'll begin with bakasana (crow) and explore other poses such as flying pigeon, side crow, grasshopper, eka pada koundinyasana i and ii, and several others.
Beginners will learn how to enter these poses, advanced practitioners will learn new entries and possibilities. Come with any questions and leave with a refreshed spirit and richer understanding of these amazing postures.

Via ProductDose is this feature on PLANK's carrier. The original post image had a "Robin Blue" coloration but was not as great an image as the one on the left.
"I was a yoga-denier until a friend dragged me to a week's worth of sessions last year. There are two things about yoga that convinced me it beats the heck out of any gym membership. First, the results are amazing. I saw definition in my torso that I never gained from weight training and running. The overall fitness and health gains were the most impressive I've experienced, and my flexibility was much improved."
" The second reason yoga is superior to any other workout is that no guy will ever see more fit women in as many provocative poses as they will see in a yoga studio. If you're going to give yoga a shot, then you also should show up with your own mat. Renting one from the studio is as hygienic as drinking beer out of a rugby boot (sadly, I've done this). Show up in style with your mat in this carrier. Maybe one of the ladies will strike up a conversation asking about your very "metro" light blue carrier."
Namaste to you dude....
Jivamukti's website has this MAHA back-story on HANUMANASANA.
I used to ignorantly deride it in my mind as "the chick pose" when teachers used to call the Asana several years back.
" HANUMAN is the name of the monkey faced Deity, the reliever of suffering. He is celebrated for his amazing leaps to Sri Lanka as he went to rescue SITA from RAVANA, the demon king.
The asana is dedicated to Hanuman, and celebrates the leap and DEVOTION to SITA & RAMA. It can allow an amazing opportunity to "split one's self open" both physically as well as metaphorically. When one is in the full pose, one's most intimate body parts are grounded into the Earth, which is a unique & powerful experience."
DEVOTION comes to play as it is considered an advanced asana, hence the necessity of regular practice.
The Indian saint Sri Neem Karoli Baba aka Maharaj-ji was regarded as an incarnation of Hanuman due to his mischievous & playful nature. This humorous point-of-view is also present in a couple of my favorite teachers, as they can slyly inject LEVITY at the most confronting portions of class.
And it looks like the SATSANG / POTLUCK vibe is contagious as Synergy Yoga in SoBe, Miami is hosting Satsang/Kirtan/Veggie Potluck & PRASAD on Oct.21st. No better way to hang out , make new friends and get blissed out -
Saturday nights in Santa Monica / Venice are turning out to be major opportunities for KIRTAN celebrations. More on that in an upcoming post.
