YYoga Movie Vinyasa Exclusive

Big thanks to Arthur K. for this exclusive , fresh new clip from the film. Dave Stringer & Shiva Rea are featured along with a track from Rara Avis. VINYASA when practiced fluidly & as my teacher describes it " like a surfer rides the wave " is a MAHA metaphor for living.

Arthur Klein : YYoga Movie Interview

Here's a short interview with film maker Arthur Klein as he was working on the rendering & final cut of his yogic SADHANA : YYOGA. You can obtain more details as to an upcoming release date via www.yyogamovie.com .

Masay Yulo : Ponderous Pondering

Rejectedatnazareth01_2 I stumbled upon this post by www.ponderouspondering.blogspot.com on my Lola
( grandmother ) Masay Yulo . Pretty awesome. Thanks very much for the memories. She was a class act -

ON ARROGANCE :

"- Consider Jaime Augusto Ayala de Zobel, known as JAZA. I was invited to one of the fine hotels in Makati for a function related to education. The President was expected to come and address the assembly and inaugurate a project. She did come. But because of another appointment she had to leave after her speech and after inaugurating the project. JAZA was one of the big shots who was present. After she had left, JAZA went to our table and asked: "May I sit with you?" He was rich but not arrogant. He was a fine gentleman--polite, well-mannered. No air of superiority. No trace of arrogance.

- Consider MASAY YULO, second wife of Jose Yulo, Sr. After the Mass on the 40th day after the death of Jose Yulo Sr., we were invited for dinner. After enjoying the main meal, I went for dessert. It so happened that Mrs. Masay Yulo and I wanted to take the same dessert. Perhaps because I was younger and faster I was able to get the fork ahead of her. I realized too late what I had done. She could have been annoyed. But I saw nothing of that sort on her face. She simply smiled and made a motion telling me to go ahead and get the dessert. I put down the fork and motioned to her to please go ahead and I will get mine after her. She was rich but not arrogant".

I Love Yoga : Africa Yoga Project

Sn8500030001 From F*ck Yoga to I Love Yoga courtesy of the Amazing & MAHA Moses " Mosi" Kupp.

He very generously sent a whole slew of I Love Yoga Ts for myself and fellow travelers.  I must comment that these have got to be some of the softest shirts out there.

One of their new collab projects ( aside from the upcoming MahaMondo Limited Ed T, hah ) is the Africa Yoga Project . This is SEVA in association with Paige Elenson ,the project's founder. Using yoga, they are encouraging the physical and mental well-being of children & young adults in Kenya - providing them with tools to educate, empower & inform their communities. Big ups pranam -

And let's not forget YOGA EVOLUTION IN LA : Jan. 23-25, 2008 @ the Hyatt Regency Plaza , Century City.Vinnie Marino, Sara Ivanhoe, Felicia Tomasko , Cameron Shayne, Mosi & more in da house. Go to www.fityoga.com for all the info.

Wishing all a Happy New Year with the intention that 2008 brings peace , hope, health and prosperity "for reals" -

Cameron Alborzian : Chi Spa Madrid

Via Aloha TV en Espanol is the clip of Cameron giving us the walk through of Madrid's Ayurveda & Yoga Chi Spa ( www.thechispa.com). He has loaded more vids on www.youtube.com/camerongoodhealth with an emphasis on diet & asana. I should have paid close attention to his advise regarding food combos as I came down with a severe case of food indigestion from Xmas Eve dinner. The culprits were a mix of an extremely rich & creamy risotto followed by a ton of grapes.

SUBS : Merci Jerome Mercier

6182711t5gl It's pretty disappointing to look forward to attending classes with a couple of my favorite teachers & experience a double hit case of the "SUBS".

For a yoga instructor, the opportunity to substitute for a teacher with a following is a test of their light & wisdom. They should understand WHY that teacher has senior students and run with it. Is it  just me who thinks that a teacher should pick their SUB judiciously ?

I am going out on a limb to say that in BOTH instances, today & yesterday , I was extremely UNDERWHELMED by the   choice of both SUBS, to the point that the term "CORNY" would be an  appropriate description. SUB " A" yesterday was too damn precious and intimated by a sparsely filled room. SUB "B" this afternoon was more senior , but as another yogi describes his style : "I'm not feeling it ". And I'm not feeling his "Down Doggie" or Britney Spears references in class either. It was a supreme test of EQUANIMITY not to walk out of both classes after the 1st 15 minutes. (Image via Amazon)

** Merci Jerome Mercier. Making it to his 6 AM class today after 2 months was the best Holiday gift. Knowing that my presence was missed by an awesome teacher like you was an added bonus. Practicing with him this morning eased out all the kinks and AMA that have accumulated from work . Jerome knows how to clear all those NADHIS using the 3 As : Asana , Alignment & Adjustment. And once again I am inspired by classmates like Daniel & Lorenzo who can pop Handstands, Pincha Ms and Eka Pada Galavasanas in the middle of the room.

Learning from a MAHA teacher is always an EXPERIENCE ; what makes it ultimately more special is the genuine ATTENTION & SOUL of that teacher for students & the practice.

Bittersweet Symphony

This tune is a version of a modern Holiday carol as it always brings me back to the winter trips I took a couple of years in a row to Toronto. The visits were occasions to hang out with my Mom's youngest sister , a favorite aunt of all time, who was wasting away with cancer. She was the OG bohemian in the family , with incarnations in Corfu , New Haven, London & finally TO. I credit her with broadening my horizons and always emphasizing that life was not always about money (though she did like to spend it, heh heh). Missing you terribly - It was great to leave LA and have a "white Christmas & New Year's" then head back once the snow started to get old. This version of Bittersweet Symphony is RARE as it pairs up Richard Ashcroft of The Verve with Coldplay -

Vegas for Vegetarians

Picfornewslettervegasapril2005the_2 TheHotel @ Mandalay Bay is the best bet for folks like us who HAVE to be in Vegas. In my case, this would be the weekend inter-office party. I have stayed at Mandalay Bay several times for Trade Shows and found that it has a more relaxed scene , with better restaurants comparatively , i.e. Border Grill, Aureole ,China Grill, etc.

TheHotel is an oasis as it is "No Smoking" in the public areas with what  smells like citrus aromatherapy pumped through the ventilation system. No slot machines in sight ( or sound). It's like a more mature version of a W Hotel hidden within Mandalay Bay.

TheCafe in TheHotel (a bit contrived,I think) has great veg food  choices : Portobello Paninis, Vegetable Omelets w/ fresh salsa , Sauteed Sesame Spinach and an amazing bread basket with superb butter on the side, c'est bon. That's my co-worker, Parisian Anne-Sophee & her Brit husband Alexis passing judgement.

R M Seafood also gets a big thumbs up as they came up with a special mushroom / asparagus pasta for me, a non-seafood eater. Yes, as the saying goes DENIAL is a river in Egypt ,heh heh, but at least I had great alternatives to "denying" top restaurants, cuisine, wine  & bars. MIX @ TheHotel is an awesome bar / lounge as I recall rather vaguely from last year . The official office "after party" was in full swing there early Sunday AM ( bottle service :Grey Goose , Patron , etc.) but I managed to pull a "French leave" for that one. Which was totally worth it as I got to see those who had enjoyed too much do their "walk of shame" @ Sunday's brunch / year-end meeting -
