Via Vedic Hawaii is this vdo showing how floral offerings in India & Hawaii are expressions of the divine heart. The malas at the temples adorning the deities are always a visual & olfactory treat . I am headed to the bay Area tomorrow and will endeavor to visit the Berkeley Temple.
Another yogic observation or as witnessed at a Yoga Studio :
For the clueless out there who still think wearing Ugg Boots to practice yoga is a groovy fashion statement ( purchased from cheesy Kitson , hehe ) , here is the official memo from the always wise & snarky Urban Dictionary :
" The ugg boot b*tch is the girl , mainly from the suburbs , that wears ugg boots and nylons while explaining that they are superb because they have a lot of sex and constantly annoy people minding their own business . "
Yup , even your role models from " The Hills " & Pamela Anderson have ditched them supposedly for their non-PETA friendly sheepskin ; the equivalent of wearing sweat saturated fur around your feet.
Most likely though , the real reason behind this is that they are also now being termed " the new chastity belt ", or " the man repulser " .
And wearing them in Santa Monica where the temps are no near to those in Aspen , even more ridic -
"Thank you Guruji " is how Jorgen ended this morning's Led Primary Series at his Omkar108 shala.
And as I was driving in the car on the way to work after class , I reflected on the aspects of Guruji's system that we indeed were grateful for.
His traditional teachings are being passed on via his students : guru parampara .
How this legacy & lineage can be felt with the Maha Prana at this led class ; where the synchronized movement and breathing of the students to the count of " Ekam , Dwe , Trini , Catvari & Pancha " lead to Yoga Chikitsa ,the Yoga Therapy , which is embodied in the Ashtanga Primary Series.
I am also extremely thankful for being on the receiving end of several maha adjustments this morning. My lower back had become sensitive & stiff as a result of all the recent consecutive plane trips . It felt like an elastic rubber band again after class. Om Vande Gurunam !
Aspen has the reputation for being a jetsetter's enclave . Rightly so as I had never seen so many G5s , Challengers & Falcon jets all parked at the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport.
Accessibilty to Aspen is not as easy as the 1 hour drive to Park City from Salt Lake City ; and the residents here want to keep it that way.
Aspen Meadows , where I stayed this week , is a welcome relief from the cheesy Disney / Frontierland meets Shopping Mall vibe of Downtown Aspen ( Louis Vuitton right beside the Gap ? Yup , that looks like Anymall USA ) . It has a modern , Bauhaus design with its own grounds & a spectacular setting.
The staff of the Meadows are amazing as well . This in comparison to some of the members of the Aspen service community who seem to have bought into the pretentious airs of their clientele.
In a town where luxury and a semblance of exclusivity are paramount , the Meadows provides the ultimate luxury experience : beauty , peace & tranquility.
Aspen Meadows is also the location of the Aspen Institute , an international nonprofit organization dedicated to " fostering enlightened leadership , the appreciation of timeless ideas and values ,and open-minded dialogue on contemporary issues ".
The Institute is largely funded by foundations such as the Carnegie Foundation , the Rockefeller Brothers Fund & the Ford Foundation.
Today is Govardhan Puja , which commemorates the event of Sri Krishna defeating Indra. I am meeting my teacher at the Venice Temple for afternoon aarti & prasadam. And it is appropriate then to post Brasileiro Nando Reis' vdo which incorporates the Maha Mantra. I will keep this tune in mind as I head up to Aspen on Tuesday.
