Swami's & JYS Led PM : Encinitas

After shuttling back & forth between meetings in Rancho Sta. Fe, Santaluz & La Jolla , mid-week , it was great to take a breather In Encinitas late yesterday afternoon.

The image on the left was taken shortly before sunset at Swami's , the legendary surf spot in Encinitas named after Swami Paramahansa Yogananda's golden domed ashram right above it.

Then it was on to David's 6 PM led class at JYS.

I was meant to drop-in as I found parking on the same block shortly before. My lack of regular practice manifested itself shortly after the Surya Namaskars , I was still feeling pretty stiff.

But as the saying goes , " A little is better than none at all."

Govindam Adi Purusam : Yamuna Devi Dasi

I will never forget the 1st time I heard Yamuna Devi Dasi singing with George Harrison " Govindam Adi Purusam " when I attended The Greeting of the Deities at the Honolulu temple a couple of years back . Even to this day , it never ceases to transport. After visiting Maharaja yesterday , Lila invited me to attend a kirtan which Sura Das of the Temple Bhajan Band was conducting at a celebrity's home in Malibu. It turned out to be a memorial for Yamuna , who passed on a month ago. It was incredible as I got to meet & chant with Shyamasundara & Gurudas , who along with Yamuna , had been sent by Srila Prabhupada over 40 years ago to open a temple in London & meet the Beatles. Govindam adi purusam tam aham bhajami.

The 1st being it is a community space that is dedicated to yoga, the study of holistic health & consciousness.An oasis of calm in the midst of South Beach's hedonism ( MAYA-mi , hehe ). The 2nd is the fact that they have 2 rooms where Led & Mysore classes can be held simultaneously. A great way for a beginner to segue into the Mysore Primary Series. I was blessed to be able to attend a couple of Patrick Nolan's evening Mysore classes this week. He is Mr. Feel Good. Every assist & adjustment that he provided me always ended in an encouraging " Good " after he counted out the 5 breaths. Which could be trying at times after along day of meetings ,walking into MLC stiff , and then getting opened up in Prasarita Padotanasana C. Jai to MLC for conducting evening Mysore & Led classes simultaneously. And Patrick , thanks for all the tips & encouragement.

Bhakti Fest 2010 : Ayush Attri Sharma

12 year old Ayush at Bhakti Fest 2010 shows us how to practice Bhakti Yoga. Maha Mantra : Amala Kirtan Prabhu

There aren't any videos posted as of this morning from the epic NYE & New Year's Day kirtanas at New Dwarka Dham. In the interim , this one of Amala Kirtan Das taken in Alachua earlier this year will have to suffice. He is an incredible devotee . I managed to participate in 7 hours of the New Year's day kirtana yesterday. What a transcendental experience. Seeing the faces of everyone there transformed by chanting & devotion , little boys & girls sitting calmly in the front row , so sublime. If Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an eight step process to Samadhi , Bhakti Yoga is the elevator, the fast track to bliss . Hari Hari !

New Year's Eve & Day : 12 Hour Kirtana

New Dwarka Dham in Los Angeles will be conducting 12 hour kirtana on New Year's Eve (1 pm - 1 am) & Day (12 pm - 12 am). I am looking forward to chanting with Amala Kirtan Das starting at 10 PM on NYE. This clip is from the " Kirtana 24 Horas " held in Campina Grande , Brasil 2010. It is going to be auspicious & ecstatic. Hari Hari !
